Fusion Studio Freezing All The Time

[ New ]

I built a new from scratch computer, WIN10 Professional, AMD Threadripper, ASUS MB, ASUS 1080ti Video Card, 32GB, 1tb NVME drive and 4tb HDD.

Fusion is slow and frequently crashes during rendering.  I've been taking video in 30-60 second clips and even then it struggles to deal with it.   I have only gotten to completion a couple of times.

No idea what is going on.  The whole computer just freezes solid.  No mouse. No keyboard.   Have to hard reboot.

Only other software loaded is most of the Adobe suite of products.

What do I need to provide to resolve this.

I have it working now. I’m not sure which of the following fixed it:

Checked file integrity and it fixed a number of issues.
sfc /scannow

I saved raw to SSD and rendered to spinning disk (basically split to two physical drives...one for input and one for output)

Changed compatibility mode to WIN7

Updated all my drivers and MB bios.

Nownit works just fine.

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you tried running the software in compatibility mode or run with graphics processor?

Just right click on the app and check if that will now work.

Another work around is try to create a new local account.

Make sure it's a local account no microsoft account or email address.

Then run the software from there.

If that will work I suggest to contact Microsoft Support.

They can provide a system tweak for that.

I have tried Compatibility Mode for Window 8 and Windows 7....no luck.

I don't see any options to force it to use my GPU.   Where exactly would I see that?

I have confirmed I'm on the latest MB Bios and Graphic Card Driver.

Hello @Anonymous,

Freezing on the app could be an indicator that your export location may not have enough hard rive space to complete the render. See if the issue will be cleared out by changing render locations. In order to do this, please see steps below:

  • On a Mac, select the GoPro Fusion Studio App in the menu bar and click "Preferences". You will see the option to change your locations there.
  • On a Windows computer, simply click Edit at the top of the GoPro Fusion Studio App window, then select Preferences.

If available, you can also test with an external hard drive as an export location provided that it is formatted correctly. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks,
Marius

Re: Fusion Studio Freezing All The Time

Its definitely not location space.  My app is installed on my 1TB ssd drive and the file is saved to my 8TB drive used only for storage.

I am having the same issue as the other user.  I  am trying to render my clips which are 1-5 minutes in length but my computer seems to struggle with it because it takes way longer than it should or it would end up freezing or crashing.

I have a 2016 macbook pro and the fusion studio takes forever to render which is why I built this computer to render the files with hopes that I wouldnt have to wait hours for a 5 minute clip, yet I still have to wait about 45-60mins with this new set up or it crashes.  Is it just me or is fusion studio just ridiculously slow in general?

I hope its not because my CPU isn't an intel as indicated on your minimum requirements page.

Save to the SSD, NOT your storage drive. Once the files are rendered to the SSD you can move them over to storage.

Re: Fusion Studio Freezing All The Time

I ran all your steps and it doesn't work for me at all. Version 1.3 crashes as soon as I click render. Previous versions show a error creating encoders. It used to work with 1.2 until I installed 1.3. After that it doesn't matter if I roll back to 1.2. I just never renders no matter the settings.

In my case fusion Studio simply dissapears and the crash reporter pops up.

Re: Fusion Studio Freezing All The Time

Thanks @aragon1006

My system is a Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHx with 16GB RAM, Desktop 64 bit

GPU is a GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores Limited Edition: https://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-560ti/specifications

So my system seems to fulfil the requirements, doesn't it? The problem also happens with other 2 computers, though they are laptops and now I read in the min specs that Windows 10 must be in its desktop version (though I think my laptop has a desktop version, not sure how different it is from any other W10)

Customer support chat is always busy.

The clockspeed on your GPU is pretty slow which is probably causing you issues. Personally I think the GTX 1050 ti should be the minimum. It's what I use, and while it's not super fast, I never have any issues. My neighbor has a GTX 1080 and it's blazing fast compared to my render times.

Whats the video RAM on your GTX 560 Ti 448 core LE? The spec sheet I looked at listed 1.3GB which is not nearly enough. You need at least 4GB video RAM.

Then the GPU may be the problem. I wonder why it used to work fine in FusionStudio 1.2

Re: Fusion Studio Freezing All The Time

[ New ]

Hi, so I got a new GPU. An 8GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080. There was an improvement, fusion Studio was able to render some videos of around 1 min length at YouTube quality.

But... I have a 46 mins recording I need to export and editing quality 5K and after some mins of render the computer starts being unusable. I have left the computer rendering overnight and at some point Fusion Studio closes itself. I tried to export a 4 mins segment and nothing. It is as if all the render power was getting accumulated somewhere until the machine can't handle it anymore.

Is there any setting somewhere? maybe in the GPU? the way Fusion Studio handles temp files? anything? I literally can't use Fusion Studio for any high quality render in any computer I have.

As a reminder, my system is a Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHx with 16GB RAM, Desktop 64 bit

BTW, I noticed in the computer performance graph that the GPU is not taking much workload during render.
