Freezing on charge, non functional

I'm struggling with my 5 Session. When i put the camera on charge the red light stays on and after removing the charging cable to light is still on and the camera doesnt function. It gets very hot and sits for a few hours, then the red light shuts off when the battery dies. I have tried changing charging options, new sd cards and nothing is working. If i put it on charge for a few minutes i can get into the menu but then it dies on low battery. Then everything repeats. I havent been able to use this camera for months. GoPro is not much help. Any thoughts?

 

My 4 session and Hero 5 have no issues.

Hey @shawnb57304,

 

What SD Card are you using with that camera? If you take the SD Card out do you still have the same issues?

It happens with or without an sd card in it. I started with Sandisk Ultras, switched to samsung evo and the newest one is the Sandisk Extreme V30. 

 

When the camera was operational, it would randomly turn on and off (beeping) and the battery would be dead after two days off the charger without any use. All connections and voice activation are turned off. 

 

How do i factory reset this so i can get the latest software to reinstall?

If you hold that back power button for 10 seconds you may be able to reset it. If that does not work get in touch with our Support Team directly:

Support team wasnt helpful. They told me there was nothing they could do now that my camera is out of the year warranty period even though i had a ticket in 3 months after purchase. Was offered a 20% discount for a replacement (joke offer).

 

Anyone have any ideas how to go in manual through windows explorer and try to replace the software files?

 

When my hero 5 black dies i will definitely move to Garmin or Revl cameras after this experience.
