Flickering with GoPro Hero 6

Hi,

For the first time, I experienced a very bad flickering on many frames. When I stop it, sometimes I stop on a very good picture (meaning, there are good frames), but most of the times it's really bad. It started roughtly 11 minutes into the recording (which has length of 49 minutes). It may have had something to do with the overheating, because after the recording was finished, the device was pretty hot. I used 2.7k@120fps as I was filming a dance performance.

I've attached a sample of the video frame. Unfortunately, it's so bad it can't really be watched. Does anyone have a filter, or way out of this for an already existing recording? Also, does anyone have some countermeasures so that it doesn't happen again?

Re: Flickering with GoPro Hero 6

Hello @blueoasis55134

The SD card that you are using is not on the recommended list for a HERO6 Black camera. Good that it worked before, but non-recommended SD cards could eventually fail for the camera will not be able to communicate properly with it. Overheating can be a result of this, so it is best to test with a "tested and proven SD card" (as in those in the recommended list) to further isolate the true cause of the problem.

If the issue persists even after using a recommended card, our Support team will be able to assist further. You can call or chat with them through https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs

Best regards,
Marius

Re: Flickering with GoPro Hero 6

I'm watching it on Windows 10 64-bit 32GB RAM, i7 7700 @ 3.6GHz, with SSD, on VLC Player 3.0.3. I tried Windows Media Player but same artifacts were happening. Also, as I mentioned, this is the first time I experience something like this - all the other videos play just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Andrej

Re: Flickering with GoPro Hero 6

Looks like a system glitch or SD card issue @blueoasis55134.

What SD card brand and model are you using?

You can try this to prevent it from happening.

https://gopro.com/support/hero6-black-product-update
Reformat your SD card and follow steps above.

Also make sure you're using a fast and recommended SD card.

Re: Flickering with GoPro Hero 6

Hi,

I'm using Samsung MicroSDXC 128GB EVO Plus UHS-I U3 card. Write time is stated to be 90M/s. Also, I have had the newest firmware, 02.01. for a long time now.

Bear in mind, that I have been using this device with the SD card for a long time now, recorded hours of videos (during winter), and this is the first time it failed me. Hence I really think it was an overheating problem rather than SD card based.

Any other information I can supply?

Thanks,

Andrej
