Try doing the manual update by the steps here: http://gopro.com/support/product-update/register-camera this process usually works as it eliminates any issue that could be happening because of the app, or pc.

Thanks for the reply, but I have tried the manual update method several times. As mentioned previousy, I've tried all the methods. I'm using a 64gb U3 SD card, formatted to exFAT and the manual update is a no go. The app doesn't work. GoPro Studio doesn't work. I've done a factory restore as well. I suspect the unit is faulty. And that's really poor.

If you can get into the menus, folow this https://gopro.com/support/articles/how-to-reset-the-camera-to-factory-defaults
Usual caveats - it wil nuke all your settings etc
If you are stuck in the update mode like me, take the battery and SD out, put the battery back in whilst holding the shutter button and turning on. Rinse and repeat until it works. I find having it pugged into the PC so it goes into charging mode helps

I have just soent the last 2 hours trying to update through the app but receiving the Firmare Update Failed message. Plugged my GoPro into the mac and used the GoPro studio. I started to receieve the same error message and just as I was about to close it all down the update started and completed with a 100% complete message on the GoPro screen. It seemed to struggle and then work its way through. No need to reformat the SD card.
It may pay to just wait a bit and let it do its thing. If I was quicker on the PC I may of missed it.

● Copy the Update folder on to the card as described by the GoPro manual update.
● Put the card in the GoPro and start - your GoPro will update fine.
I think the fat32 file system makes the difference. I haven't checked using the fat32 card using the mobile or pc app to update, I suspect it will work though - maybe someone can try and post up their results
