Filming Fireworks with Fusion

Hi All,

I recently bought a GoPro Fusion to film some of the work I do setting off firework displays and have been very happy with it so far.  My question is which settings (PT, etc.) should I use to get the most out of my camera?  Below is a link to a video I recorded in the default "point and shoot" mode.  I know that fireworks can be tricky to film/photograph even for professionals.  Any pointers?

Thanks!

-Jeff

Hello @jeffl56651 . For settings, you  may check pages 42 and 49 of the Fusion manual here https://gopro.com/content/dam/help/fusion/manuals/Fusion_UM_ENG_REVC.pdf

Re: Filming Fireworks with Fusion

This is an article that mainly focuses on night photo/lapse, but you can use some of the same settings and see how they turn out.

BTW, you'll need to allow embedding of your video in your YouTube settings to allow us to view it here.

Re: Filming Fireworks with Fusion

Thanks for the replies!  I both the manual and the article before posting, but I was under the impression that Fusion did not have a nighttime mode when capturing video, and the only way to adjust the capture settings was via Protune.  Is that still the case, and would setting the ISO to the lowest number cause any harm?  Thanks again!

Re: Filming Fireworks with Fusion

"Night Mode" video recording really is the Protune settings.  Higher ISO Max value will allow the camera to increase the sensitivity (technically the excitability) of the sensor pixels.  This increase in sensitivity allows for a brighter, but noisier, image.  Adjust your EV will tell the camera to auto adjust to make the image brighter (+) values or darker (-).  The camera accomplishes this by increasing the ISO to whatever MAX ISO you have set (as needed) and decreasing the shutter speed.  The slower the shutter, the more motion blur you will have.  You can set a lower MAX ISO (800 for clean with some noise & 400 for very clean) but the lower the number, the darker the image will be.  Increasing the EV will help, but once the camera reaches the Max value, higher EV has no effect.  In other words, if the MAX ISO is set to 400 and this gets reached at EV +1, changing the EV to +2 will have no effect because the max value was already reached.
