Hello, I had my camera GoPro Hero 5 black connected through wifi an worked with it ( remote control, taking photos, live stream on udp://10.5.5.9:8554 ). I turned off display with the URL request 10.5.5.9/gp/gpControl/setting/72/0 from computer. Then I turned off the camera. But when I turn the camera on, it's wifi access point of course is not running. So I can not turn it back on by 10.5.5.9/gp/gpControl/setting/72/1 now. And I obviously can not control the camera by touch commands( I have tried it in "blind mode", it does't react).
I also tried connecting it with USB to PC, hoping that it will enable LCD in the USB transfer mode. Compared to Hero4, Hero 5 doesn't have Settings item in the Front-LCD menu (hold Mode, press shutter) anymore so I really need help to enable the LCD again.
The Gopro is fully functional, it just has disabled LCD and doesn't react to touchscreen, wifi is disabled and i don't know how to turn (LCD or wifi) on.
-My Gopro is now in deadlock state: I would like to enable LCD (which i had disabled through wifi), but but camera's wifi is off and I can not turn wifi without LCD (by swipe down->Connect).
- Is there another way to enable LCD?
- Is there method of camera reset that includes enabling LCD?
-Will this behavior be fixed in next firmware? (To prevent camera going in deadlock state, where the LCD remains disabled and cannot be enabled)
PS: When I discovered the existence of the display turn off command compared to waiting 1 minute for screensaver to kick in, I was delighted that there exist at least a proof-of-concept way to turn theLCD off (for energetic reasons , GoPro is battery vampire) nevertheless it is in fact unusable method (it needs wifi client device). I hope there will be shortcut to turn the LCD off just in-camera, without neccessity of wifi device.

Sorry, this doesn't work in Hero5 mode anymore, sadly. I had written: " Hero 5 doesn't have Settings item in the Front-LCD menu (hold Mode, press shutter) anymore".
Indeed, after i press [power button=mode button]+ [shutter button] , There are only these four top level menus(that can be cycled by clicking shutter when first entry [shown as mode icon] is selected. )):
- Video mode (including submodes :Video, Video+Photo and Loop mode)
- Photo mode(submenus: Photo, Night photo)
- Burst (no submodes)
- Timelapse (incl submenus: Timelapse photo, timelapse video, night time lapse)
No more Options here. Every menu has Done entry that exits menu. This can be also exited by long shutter long press.

I had contacted online support and i had been advised firmware update. I have just now successfully updated from 1.55 to 1.57.
Unfurtunately it didn't help at all.. Display is still disabled after startup, wifi too.

Are you able to verify that the back LCD has not been turned off? Press the top shutter button and side power button simultaneously. It should bring p the advanced settings on the front LCD. Navigate to the display and wi-fi settings and make sure they are turned on. If, by pressing both buttons simultaneously, the advanced settings do not come up, then the back LCD is not manually turned off but rather just not working. Try it a few times. If you get no results, exchange the camera.

if you press the mode and shutter that only locks the back, and allows the front display to work, for say underwater. or if you like to do it the old way. does it turn off the screen no becuse you can wake it up again. if asked

I do not understand last 2 replies. For clarification: back lcd= Color 2" touchscreen, front LCD= small monochrome display.
-Since the 10.5.5.9/gp/gpControl/setting/72/0 was opened, coloroud touchscreen is off, no image shown, no backlight, does not respond to touch commands. Before the command, color touchscreen was working.
-I wrote in the first post: When i press mode button and shuter button, front monochrome LCD menu appears, it has only four top level modes (burst, video, photo, time lapse) . Each menu has its own settings (fps, resolution, submode, protune,...) and last item of the menu is Done. I could not find any Settings mode.

VERY IMPORTANT OBSERVATION:
Having the camera still with deactivated display for one month (I have not managed to send it to repair facitility yet , I still use it with rear display disabled. ), I observed very strange behaviour of the touchscreen in these conditions:
- few seconds after battery or card is inserted
- while camera is on (all the time):
The GoPro Hero 5 touchscreen is very mildly emmiting light ("grayish") . The intensity is so low that it is impossible to see it after immediate transition to dark environment. THe human eye must adapt for 30 seconds in total darkness to start seeing it.
So now I am becaming unsure about the condition. Is it the expected behaviour when the display is deactivated by 10.5.5.9/gp/gpControl/setting/72/0 ? If yes, whe the display emits this amount of light? May be there a chance that the display got really malfunct instead of just being disabled by that command above? But all other behaviour indicates it is really disbled, because touschreen gestures do not work.
