External power for Hero 5 Black

Is it ok to run a USB cable (Powered from the vehicle) to the Hero 5 Black and record while riding? I need a longer record time then the battery will supply.z

Yes that is fine to do, in fact many people do this when they want a longer recording time.

 

Keep in mind, you should remove the internal battery first and then just power the camera via the USB cable.  This will help prevent overheating of your camera.

You should use the proper charger that has a 5V 2A output.

You will need to open or remove the battery cover of your camera to do this which means your camera is no longer waterproof, so it should be mounted inside the vehicle as water, dust or dirt may enter your camera.
