External Mic Not Recording Audio with HERO5 Black when using Quick Capture

I have tested a Rode VideoMicro and multiple other mics and have the same issue. I have the GoPro audio adapter attached, and it records audio fine with any mic when turning the camera on and pressing record, however, audio WILL NOT record when using Quick Capture.  So when I press the record button, it will record video but not audio. I have a Hero 5 with v2.0 firmware.

Which type of external microphone do you use with your HERO5 Session camera? One way to be able to use the QuikCapture button (shutter button) when using the Pro Mic Adapter is to use a powered microphone. Same exact problem here. Lost an entire day's footage because of it. Called support and they claimed ignorance; wanted me to set up an RMA for repair. No question they would have sent it back in the same state.

I ended up downgrading to v1.50 of the firmware. It now works as expected.

Thanks for the info. GoPro tech seems to be actively looking into the issue and I sent them video/audio tests today. Hopefully they will recognize it's a firmware issue and fix it. Good to know that rolling back fixed it for you!

gopro  quikcapture   with a  promic  lost the 1st five seconds on earlier firmware, so now you lost it all on fw 2.0  my rode is home and I am sure I did a few runs with fw 2.0 and did not come across this so let me  wait andsee on my.

I am in the talks with gopro about the sound   and I have a list of troubles, but  they have troubles gettingby  the first one.  samples given and more needed.

UPDATE: Someone deleted my first attempt to update this thread so here goes again. 

 

When I first noticed that my Hero5 wasn't recording audio through an external mic with QuickCapture, I contacted GoPro and helped them troubleshoot the issue for weeks. I sent them detailed information, as well as video/audio samples with multiple mics. They told me to send them the GoPro so they could check it out themselves. 

 

Great, but I didn't want to be out of a GoPro for long so they agreed to ship me a replacement GoPro as soon as they can see that my item has shipped. I waited a few weeks because I needed it for a wedding but the label was still good until the 25th of May. When I tried to ship it out on the 22nd, FedEx wouldn't take the package because it was expriing soon. No big deal, I'll just call GoPro and get a new shipping label and RMA.

 

Call them back (it takes on average 45 minutes to get through to a person btw) and they send me a new shipping label and RMA. All sounds good, right? They also promise me again to send a replacement unit once they can verify shipping instead of waiting for it to be received at the warehouse. I'm thinking, they are helping me since I helped them.

 

Ship the package and call them back in a couple days to see if my replacement was sent. Tech support says no, and that they would have to wait til they receive my GoPro. I tell him everything above and that you guys promised to ship me a replacement sooner since, you know, I've been helping you for many weeks now trying to fix an issue with YOUR product. I tell tech a have emails verifying everything and can forward to him.

 

He says that wasn't necessary since he found out a supervisor denied the previous requests to have my replacement sent out once shipping was verified. I argue a bit, and then he says, get this, "You can't prove anyone here told you we would send out a replacement before our warehouse receives it!" I remind him that he told me that a supervisor denied this imaginary request, right? He hangs up on me.

 

I call back and get a reasonable tech who tells me she will send out a replacement now. Great, thats all I wanted. Asked if she would send me something in writing or a tracking # to prove I was getting something. She says, of course.

 

No email. No tracking.

 

The next day, replacement GoPro magically arrives. Super quick considering no one from GoPro sent me tracking info. But who cares at this point, right? I got a GoPro back. (Tracking email comes later that day after GoPro arrives)

 

And guess what. New GoPro has same issue. Of course it does. When recording with camera already on, audio from external mic works fine. When doing the same thing through Quick Capture, DOES NOT RECORD AUDIO. 

 

Back to square one.

Welcome to the real world my friend. its back and foruth a thousand times. I jsut  talked to a friend and they simply use their phone.  could not agree more.

 

 A lot I can say, not worth wasting a breath . on deaf ears with  audio and gopro.
