Well I'm not a total fanboy, but it generally works well. I was given it as a gift, and at the time there were few decent options.
I was able to get files off the SD card using a phone, but it was hardly convenient.

What kind of camera do you have? After formatting the card in the camera or in the computer to the proper file format (EXFAT if 64GB and up and FAT-32 if 32GB and below) are you able to transfer footage to the computer now?
You'll want to eliminate the different factors to see if you can determine where the problem comes from. Try a different computer, try a different card, and if that fails still it could be the camera.

I am not sure how many people are still following this web page.
but here is an important update.
The entire Karma series drone was recalled late last year, and is now back on the market without fixing most of the problems.
Gopro is on a HUGE new advertising campagn on Facebook.
It is very important that all of us get involved in this web page.
They make garbage, Everyone must know.

Failure to read files on an SD card is a well known, much discussed shortcoming of Windows 10, affecting most brands of cameras. This is not a GoPro specific issue. GoPro has numerous faults. This is not one.

Seriously frustrating, this. Not a single one of my other devices battle with W10 so not sure why it takes the blame in this case. Also, it's intermittant with main folder sometimes empty and other times it shows a folder inside, but then THAT one is empty. Fix the **bleep** problem already.

I have done all of the suggestions but nothing happened still. Until,
I click on the Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers
select Hero5 Black (or any gopro device), right click and trouble shoot!!!!!!
