Extended Time Lapse - 7 days continuous

Hi Guys,

Looking to do exteneded time-lapse over a period of 4 months broken into weeks. New to GoPro platform and I plan to shoot at 60 second intervals throught the day. Due to the lack of third party intervalometers for GoPro HERO 5 I will have to keep camera powered on continusly via USB during this period. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance..

Re: Extended Time Lapse - 7 days continuous

@paybak - It's definitely possible to keep the HERO5 powered by USB. The door to the power port will need to be open though so you can access that port, which will mean the camera won't be waterproof. Is that ok for the shoot you have planned?

Re: Extended Time Lapse - 7 days continuous

Thanks Jeff. I plan to do a construction site time-lapse, camera will be housed in enclosure and I will retrived the photos once a week. I was hoping there was a way to extend the intervals to say every 5min and also half the footage will be a waste as I will only need the images during daylight. But I guess it will get the job done.

Re: Extended Time Lapse - 7 days continuous

Hi,

I'm not sure how to ask a new question but mine relates to a continuous timelapse.  We're looking at timelapsing a construction project over a 2 month period with GoPro Hero 4 Silver.

The challenges I'm wondering about are power and data storage.

- Power:  Looking at this info, it looks like you can power the camera via USB - is there an adapter for USB to 120V wall outlet?

- Storage:  Is there a way to hook the camera to a large hard drive, like a 1 or 2 TB drive so that we can record 8-10hrs/day without having to swap out SC cards so often?  If so, are there options to hook the camera to both USB power and a hard drive simultaneously?

Thanks!

Re: Extended Time Lapse - 7 days continuous

@spiryriver17841 - For power, most 5V 1A adapters will work. If you have an adapter for an iPhone, for example, that should work for you. For storage, you could use the same cable that is providing the power to connect to an external drive. I don't think there's a to write directly from the camera to an external hard drive (as opposed to the SD card), but it should be easy enough to pull the files off periodically using the cable.
