How often such bug in the camera meets at you - all LEDs ON in the switched-off mode? Helps to take out the battery only

Ok then this has never worked for me it goes on every single time. I need to get my camera exchanged since pretty much everything in it seems to be a problem. Hope the next one behaves :)

Re: Experience so far with the 1.61 firmware

[ New ]

hi,

just took 156 photos in timelapse photo.

no problems.

also half an hour timewrap - no issue

I know guys you know still I'll repeat the drill:

updated to 1.61 - without formatting before the SD card

and I encounter in 2 days, a lot of:

- split video screen

- freeze image

- at the end freeze camera

- not responding

Plus, the camera was slow responding:

- in menu

- power on/off

- when stop a video recording

- in understand voice commands

What I did is:

- factory reset on H7 - I did not make the initial setup (language, pair with phone, etc....), power off

- format SD card in the laptop

- copied the UPDATE folder

- made the manual update

- format again the SD card

- went through the initial settings (language, pair with phone...)

the effect is visible:

- camera moves between menus very well

- no more delays in responding to power on/off, to video stop recording

- understands the voice commands better

- I recorded more than 70h of video, all 4K, with and w/o Protune, w and w/o stabilization - no more freeze, no more issues.

- no problems with timelaps

give it a try...

---and do not forget the rule of tumb:

- gopro is not good at all in dealing with "holes" in the SD card space

- so do not delete files from SD card

- copy what you need from the card

- and format it before starting a new video session, from camera menu

just me,

robert

Still experience battery drains. Have to remove the battery and reinsert it to make it work again, but the battery is almost empty then. This happens even with my replacement Hero 7. That thing is unreliable af. Wanted to capture a moment with my daughter this morning and the camera was dead. Still have to carry around my Hero 4 Silver which works rock solid.

I did what Robert1326 said.
First fully format the SD Card (no quick) on my PC.
Copied the unziped update on SD Card.
Reset to factory settings the hero 7.
Remove the battery from the hero 7.
Insert the SD card.
Insert the battery in camera.
Start the camera
After finishing the update:
Remove the SD card and format it again on my PC (quick format)
Insert the SD card on hero 7
Start the camera.
After adjusting the time and date, reset to factory settings.
Now i give tries. After some days I will inform all of us.

@konstantin30287

You must first unzip (extract) the UPDATE folder to your computer from the UPDATE.zip file.  Do not place the zipped file on the SD card.

Perform a FULL (not quick - uncheck this box) format of your SD card in your computer

Move the UPDATE folder (not UPDATE.zip) onto the SD card

Right click and Eject the SD card from the computer

Remove the SD card and place it in your camera

Turn the camera on using the side Mode/Power button

Wait for the update to complete

On the camera, go into Preferences>Reset and format the SD card

Go to Preferences>Reset and choose factory reset

Turn off the camera when done

On your phone, open the app and go to camera and press and hold on the picture of your camera until delete comes up

Delete this instance of the camera from your phone

Turn on the camera and you should be prompted for the first time setup

When you get to connecting to the app, press the (+) in the app on your phone and choose the HERO7 Black

The app and phone should connect automatically (it's best to just leave the name as it is)

Once connected, use the app to go into camera settings and scroll down to Date/Time

Press on Date/Time to sync the camera and phone to the same date/time.

Exit setup

Take two pictures and a short video

Power off the camera using the app and then exit the app

Your camera should now be working fine.

I did exactly this with my first Hero 7. Didn't change anything but it was with the old firmware.

@danielr15 Thank you! We talk the same "language". I did it exactly as you said. The menu of the camera runs fast now!

Well, that's about me finished with gopro products. I thought I had software issues sorted but Today, I have lost all conectivity with it apart from using it with my desktop via usb. WiFi via the android app fails. The destop app crashes the very moment I try to connect.

I've made my thoughts very clear to Amazon and its on its way back for a refund.

Onwards and upwards ;-)

See ya guys.

I test hero 7 today in light conditions.
When i test it, the picture jumps with stabilization on or off to all video modes.
I did a sd format again and a factory reset, but the problem remains the same.
I remove the SD card and in standby mode i turn the camera to the right and to the left, with or without sd card the picture still jumps!
Battery is on 82 %.
Maybe it needs to send the camera to service.

@konstantin30287

Probably best if you just contact the GoPro Support Team.  Be sure to let them know you've tried manually updating, factory resets, and SD cards from the recommendation list as they will probably ask you to do all of these things if you don't.  My HERO7 Black is working great so I know that it's not an inherent issue with all cameras, so maybe you just need to exchange yours.

Re: Experience so far with the 1.61 firmware

[ New ]

Guys, some potentially good news. Someone from the GoPro repesentatives here (jeff if I remember corectly) made a comment on a topic that is about the slow discharge of the camera with this new firmware. He said that it is possible that bluetooth is not turning off properly even if the connections is set to off so he recommended tot pull put the battery and wait for 5 seconds and put it back again if you plan to store it. As I was suspecting that something doesn't turn off as it should I tried this advice, leaving it out for 10 seconds (just to be sure) and putting it back leaving it over night. Guess what, so far in my testing it seems that battery drain has stopped, not even a 1% discharge. So try this if you experience this slow discharge. It is definitely a bug but until is resolved it's a temporary fix.

I found another bug regarding navigating the menus. For some reason after swiping up to see the media I shot, I saw that one animation lags teribly - that animation is when you swipe up to dismiss the topdown menu when you swipe down to see the notification like menu (like in a smartphone). GoPro you should really consider me beta testing the next GoPro :))) - I wish.

Re: Experience so far with the 1.61 firmware

[ New ]

I came in contact with the Gopro support team and told the problem i am facing with my Hero7.

They asked for me to sent them some videos (RAW and etc.), to understand the issue and more information about all the tries i did with firmware update.

After all these, they work it out that was a Stabilization problem and decide to replace my camera with a New One.

They gave me all the information that was necessary  and a UPS ticket for return!

The camera is already returned on Monday 7th January 2019 and on Wednesday 9th  they informed me by email that the Replacement order ######### has been set up and should be on its way to me shortly.

I have to say MANY MANY THANKS about the Gopro Support Team until now!Smiley Happy

Hope for you, your problem will be solved, but I'm not sure it will. Have send different camera's back with "an issue". Each time the replacement one had the same issue because it's a common problem.

Last camera that I had returned was my hero 6 black because it gaved shaky image from time to time when using 100fps on 1080P.

They replaced it ( thanks for that) but the replacement device did the same thing from time to time.

Gopro support are trying to help people as much as they can, but they should give feedback to development team to do a proper investigation.
