Does the Hero8 Black really support 240fps at 1920x1080?

[ Edited ]

I'm considering buying a GoPro Hero8 Black, just for its high-speed recording capability (which supposedly is 240fps at a resolution of 1920x1080). However, I was watching this sample video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skvfs432v4g (high-speed recording starts at 0:03, as just before that it appears to be normal 30fps recorded footage) which says it's recorded from a Hero8, and it looks to me to not be smooth playback, suggesting that some tricks are being used to make people think it's recording at 240fps. If it was truly recorded at 240fps and then played back at 30fps, the movement would be smooth. However the movement looks quite jerky. It looks like the camera actually recorded at 120fps, and then duplicated each frame to poorly simulate 240fps recording, and then was played back at 30fps.

Can somebody here verify that the GoPro Hero 8 actually is capabile of recording at rate of 240fps at a resolution of 1920x1080?

hi,

indeed gopro slomo is played at 1/4:

but can be changed to be played at normal speed.

so here is my test:

by default the playback is 1/4x, so should be 60fps.

maybe was 120 and played at 30.

plus the "quality" Youtube take care too "add" to our videos...

as we do not know the exact setting, it is hard to judge.

I added to my "falling leaf" the 1/8x play.

so filmed at 200fps.

played at 1x = 200fps

played at 1/4x = 50fps

played at 1/8x = 25fps - even here looks smooth to me...

The real question is does the App have FLUX, or the editors used, using special features of FLUX like the Studio did to make it FLUID.
