Does recording in Time-Lapse mode actually save much battery life?

When recording in Time-Lapse mode (2FPS/0.5s per frame) does it actually save much battery life?

Or, is the primary benefit extending recording times on the CD card?

I am wanting to record 3~5 or even up to 8 hours but am not certain if this is feasible? I don't need real-time...time-lapse is fine. But a recording session should be several hours.

I have a Hero 5 session, but would be willing to purchase another model if that would makle a significant difference.

You won't save that much battery life.  With a GoPro Fusion I can record about 1hr 30 of video depending on shooting conditions.  Shooting in timelapse this will increase to about 1hr 50 mins to 2 hours.  So not a huge battery saving.  For longer recordings I just either use spare batteries or hook the camera up to a power supply.
