Direct sun causing underexposure

[ Edited ]

I've been playing around with my new Hero 6 and am loving it.  However, one thing that's been a problem for me is when I'm shooting into the sun like in the screen grab below.  It causes everything to dim as it tries to correct for the sun exposure.  I wish there was some sort of intelligent setting on the GoPro that would detect the sun and no try to expose for it.  I wish it would prioritize the rest of the scene and ignore the brightness of the sun itself.
