The date and time stamp on your GoPro media (videos and photos) can only be seem through the properties of the individual files. Have you explored on gauges already?
When you use Quik for desktop, you can apply another layer to your video through Gauges. This includes the date and time the footage was captured, in addition to distance, elevation, altitude, among others. You can read more about this here. Hope this helps.

@graypeak57022 - Sorry, but we don't have a function that overlays the date and time over a video as it is being recorded. The date and time the video is shot is tracked on the file data and a clock can be added in editing if needed.

Any particular reason why Gopro does not provide this feature?? Other brands seem to have no problems with it.
I get the impression that a lot of users would like this to be added in a future firmware update.
It is (to me at least) a mystery why this was left out initially but even more a mystery why Gopro does not hear the request of its customers and seems reluctant to get this issue fixed.
Is this so difficult to implement???
I like my Hero 5 but this is disappointing.

This is incredibly stupid on your developers part. I was going to go buy 10 today and 10 next week but if i cant have a time stamp, you cant have my money. Make an update and push it out already. It is obvious that people want it. Short sided and lazy coding by your dev team.

I fully agree that it is useless without date and time stamp. I use the GoPro for looping videorecording on my motorbike.
If you swipe right to media on the Gopro you only see a few files. If you open the app on your phone you see all the files. No idea why you can't see them all on the device itself.
Without a date and time stamp it is just a bunch of videos. It is impossible to find a specific shot. It was also a stupid idea to label the files the most recent with "1". Because if files are added, the newest one becomes "1" and the previous "1" becomes "2". This is really silly. You would expect the oldest one to be "1" and the newest one to be the last number in the sequence.
Loading media on the phone is terribly slow. It takes minutes before the videos are populated on the iPhone screen. Why not offer a list view with date/time. That doesn't take so much time to load because with the current design, it needs to load all the thumbnails.
If you click one thumbnail you get another spinner that takes a minute or more and frequently an error message "can't load media". If you then press the share icon and Cancel the video DOES load.
The GoPro 5 is a terrible product that crashes frequently, doesn't (always) charge during recording with charging cable attached, has a red light that sometime is on, sometimes flashes and sometimes is off (without any good reason).
It's by far not worth the premium price that is being charged for it.
