Crazy battery drain in hero 6

Already 2 days in a row my battery has died within 30 minutes of use. I usually take 4-5 short 1 minute clips. My hero 5 could last days like that. Why is the 6 dying with only a few minutes of video? Anyone else having that issue?

Re: Crazy battery drain in hero 6

not for me.

this morning i went for a mtb ride with my fam. shot about an hr worth of vids or more (we were out and about for 2 hrs). had 3% when i got back to my car.

was using full settings too: 4k30 stabilization on, voice (including wakeup) protune, wind only settings etc..

could u possible have a bad battery? i agree the unit eats battery, and right now i only have one. but in terms of draining within 30 mins, i cant relate.

one thing i realized was during charging? mine stops @ 99%. never have i seen it display 100% full.

Re: Crazy battery drain in hero 6

What SD card are you using? Usually battery drain issues are related to SD cards. I haven't had the Hero6 long enough to run through any test, but this is the first thing to check. Format the card you have in your computer and also try a different one if you can. Ideally you should be using a card from this list https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-Card-Considerations (Obviously use one from the Hero4/Hero5 list).

NEVER use SanDisk Ultra

What about Sandisk Extreme Plus? I've made a night lapse, took about 5k pictures yesterday night and seems like my hero6 can't access to it anymore as it is too slow..

Re: Crazy battery drain in hero 6

The SanDisk Extreme Plus should be more than fast enough. I personally never use any SanDisk cards because I've had to many issues with them and have heard to many complaints on this forum and others. However, there are plenty of reviews that highly rate this card and there are plenty of GoPro users who swear by them.

I only use Samsung Pro/Pro+/Pro Select and Lexar 1000X. I've only had my Hero6 for a couple of days and haven't done time/night laps yet so I can't speak to your issue and whether or not the cards I use are more reliable.

I rarely use the camera to view files and I never use the camera to delete so my experience with playback on the Hero4 Silver, Hero5 Black, and now Hero6 is pretty limited.

Re: Crazy battery drain in hero 6

I was thinking to get the Lexar 1000X but read a lot of bad reviews about it on Amazon..

Is the Pro+ considered as a better card then others..?

Re: Crazy battery drain in hero 6

The Pro+ is a very good card. The Pro Select is basically the same card but according to Samsung it is optimized for 4K. I haven't seen any performance differences between the two. Be careful with Amazon as a lot of counterfiet cards are sold there. Always make sure the fullfillment is through Amazon or at least check the seller's rating.

Re: Crazy battery drain in hero 6

Thanks. I always make sure to buy only from Amazon (or fullfilled by them). :)

I will give a try with videos today and maybe i will return this and get the pro plus. It is working fine with my PC so i guess the camera is not fast enough to handle this..
