Couple of questions for GoPro 8 users [ Edited ]

Hi guys

As a 7 version of GoPro camera user I would like to ask you how number 8 is going on:

1. Is it warm, hot or burning after ~ 20 minutes of recording ?

2. I assume you see battery and sd card indicators while recording (I saw on some YT videos but I would like to know how is in real not like "mupets" showing it)

3. Does battery drain as 7 when is OFF ?

4. Any problem with update via cellphone ?

Following:

 sucks when  one made a video and said battery is hotter  on teh hero 8 charging then the Hero 7. and another said  the bottom is hotter the the top while running.  so real people   yeah love to see  it myself to.

No, but then again when I shoot I make sure the camera is set up properly, I'm using an approved SD card, and there's adequate airflow around the camera.  There's people who insist on leaving the camera shooting at 4K @ 60FPS for over an hour with Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Voice Control and Stabilization turned on full while using the cheapest memory card possible.  In these conditions, yes, the camera will overheat.

I can assure you there is a battery and SD card indicator on the display when recording.  There are no cloth covered Jim Henson designed puppets involved with this dislpay.

3. Does battery drain as 7 when is OFF ?

There is a battery drain issue observable with my first Hero 8.  This is using the proper Hero 8 battery also.  It appears to be at least 1% an hour.  This isn't an issue for me as I always have spares charging in rotation and replace my batteries straight before a shoot.  However if you're the type of person that thinks they can throw their GoPro in a desk drawer for a month or two, then take it out and start shooting, then yes, this will be an issue for you.

4. Any problem with update via cellphone ?

No, I updated mine via the cellphone with no issues.  I have heard of people having issues but it seems to be user error.  For instance there is a part of the process where you are instructed to toggle on and off your wifi on your cell phone.  However I've read of people deleting their WiFi connection to their camera, trying to turn off their camera to stop WiFi etc...    Personally I always like to update via the SD card as it's much quicker, however I updated via the Cellphone this time for testing purposes.  

Hope the answers helped.  The battery drain issue is interesting, I have a 2nd Hero 8 on the way, it will be interesting to see if it's repeated on this one.

I'm kind of with you on that, mine drains slowly like that also. I have two of the new Hero 8 batteries. The light on the back of my Hero 8 stays on though, unless I pull the battery. Everything else works fine, I'm debating whether to return it or not. The only thing that bothers me is potential resale value at a later date. I'm always fully honest with the conditions when I sell camera gear online and that could make it a little more difficult to sell.  Still thinking.

I just can not think of it.  the Twilight Zone.  William Shatner.  when he was in a gopro, and he logged all his  stories.. and that what is it that I am looking for.  Maybe when you are out of the Twilight Zone you will  get back to Norm.

So after using 2 GoPro Hero 8 camera's after nearly a month, here's my updated thoughts on the below....

1. Is it warm, hot or burning after ~ 20 minutes of recording ?

No, I haven't noticed this issue with either camera.  Now I do most of recording with the camera's either attached to the outside of a plane or mounted on top of a car.  So it's possible there's airflow cooling taking effect, but even after an hour and a half, I've never felt the slightest bit of warming in the camera.

It depends on how close you are to the camera or how good your eyesite is.  I always check battery and SD card status before recording so not a huge deal.

3. Does battery drain as 7 when is OFF ?

There was some battery drain, but now that I have been using the camera a while, I'm not seeing it.  For instance I charged one of the GP8's over a week ago.  Only powered it on today, it was at 100%.  The camera I used this morning had a fresh battery placed in it on Saturday evening.  Powered it on today, 100%.  So the battery drain isn't an issue.

4. Any problem with update via cellphone ?
