WOW ladies please. I've only just seen this thread, & know of a program called WiGo that will let you control a Hero 4 or older GoPro from a computer. The software is free, but have to add to cart & proceed as a purchase, they then send you the required download https://cam-do.com/products/wigo-gopro-wifi-controller-for-windows

If you know how to deal with Python you can use whatever OS and hardware supoorting this programming language to control your camera.
Here's an example estefannie-gopro-selfie how to make use of the GoPro API https://github.com/KonradIT/gopro-py-api/blob/master/README.md
EDIT: posted this for a number of times now ... O.K. if you're looking for something 'spoon-feed' you may have to wait a 'lil longer

Joerg, not everyone is a programmer
Noted! But it also questionable which features people are looking for when saying 'control from PC' .
Also 'non-programmers' should be able to copy a string into their browsers address field - i.e. from here https://github.com/KonradIT/goprowifihack/blob/master/HERO5/HERO5-Commands.md
Use those you need to finish your task and you don't need to write a single line of code

The problem is that GoPro made it harder to connect to Hero 5 and Hero 6 remotely.
Now, they require a bluetooth handshake before turning on WiFi making it impossibly hard to make a remote controlling application.
(if only GoPro added an option to keep "wifi always on" somewhere in the settings).
