Continuous recording on a Hero7 Black @ 1080p60f
[ New ]Hi,
I'm building a rig in which I hope to continuously record at 1080p60f on a Hero7 Black for as long as possible using a 512GB Micro SD and external power source. From my calculations I should be able to record for 25hrs and have battery power for 30hrs at a time.
My worry is that the camera might struggle with overheating and stop recording.
Has anyone encountered this before? Any other problems I may encounter would be greatly appreciated to consider also.
Thank you in advance,
E

Re: Continuous recording on a Hero7 Black @ 1080p60f
[ New ]The biggest concern is the SD card. You want to do a test run to be sure the camera and card work well together for extended periods. It will be hard to simulate the same settings, but a bucket of water should suffice.
Be sure to do a FULL format (not quick) of the SD card followed by a format in the camera. Also, run a manual firmware update (even if the camera is in the lastest update).
Good luck! Be sure to come back and share your experience 😉

Re: Continuous recording on a Hero7 Black @ 1080p60f
[ New ]A lot will depend on the amount of air ventilation and ambient heat. The camera isn't rated for a 512 GB card, but if it is good quality with a fast sequential write it might be fine. Be sure to remove the battery when externally powering the camera.Depending on what other features you are using, 1080p should be a pretty safe resolution for extended recording.

Re: Continuous recording on a Hero7 Black @ 1080p60f
[ New ]Hi Daniel,
That's great, thank you.
The camera will be housed in an aluminium housing on the seafloor at 100m, hence the urgency to ensure continuous filming.
Any other thoughts much appreciated,
Ellis
