Conflict in Firmware Versions - Hero 3 Silver

When I start my GoPro 3 Silver, it shows the firmware version as 3.00.

When I look at the firmware version using the Capture app, it says 3.00.

But, when I look at the version.txt file in the MISC directory of the SD card it says:

Bleach:NO NAME mnewman$ cd MISC
Bleach:MISC mnewman$ ls
version.txt
Bleach:MISC mnewman$ cat version.txt
{
"info version":"1.1",
"firmware version":"HD3.02.03.00",
"wifi version":"3.4.2.18",
"wifi bootloader version":"0.2.2",
"wifi mac":"d896850765cc",
"camera type":"Hero3-Silver Edition",
}

I have tried updating the firmware again using version 3.02. It appears to work, but the version still shows 3.00 when the camera starts and on the Capture app.

Which is correct, the camera or the file on the SD card?

The camera should be showing the latest version that it's running. That's the one to refer to.

Re: Conflict in Firmware Versions - Hero 3 Silver

Turns out this is incorrect. I spoke to a GoPro support person who, after consulting with a superior, told me that both the camera and the Capture app are only accurate to the nearest whole number. So, if you're firmware version is 3.00 or 3.04 or 3.15, both the camera and Capture app will display 3.00. I know, this seems crazy but that's what they told me and that's what my experience shows.

The only way to know for sure is to look at the version.txt file on the SD card.

Of course this begs the question, Why display two decimal places if it's only accurate to the whole number?
