Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

I've only had problems if the video files were on a removable drive, now I always copy to my hard drive and it seems to work fine.

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

Hi @zaxs, I've just sat down to edit today's videos and gpx data and have noticed that I have a video in one 10.3GB file (over 48mins long), well what I did before recording was to turn off GPS tracking, set video quality to 1080p.. Hmm... well actually I have one 48mins main file and then three others (the footage from the main file but just split into three files!) WTAF!?? :))

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

I get ~45 minute files at 1080p but usually run a higher resolution, so get much shorter clips.

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

I usually get 17mins 1080p (GPS on) files. Anyway, it looks like I got this telemetry-gpx thing working. I will post an update later on :)

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

Using my method, for me it works.I have already done several tests and is working.

My job is to make the technical videos of rally races, with the right GPS points, and can not fail :)

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

Hey @zaxs,

thanks a lot for your tool. Together with DashWare it helps a lot to cut down on administrative work to merge the telemetry data together. Before it took me quite some time in Excel to get all my telemetry data merged in one file but now it's relatively painless.

Here some things I still need to do manually in Excel since I don't get the correct results.

Calculation of "Total Ascent Meters"

    based on the file your tool creates I use the following Excel formula for all cells J3 and higher (put into J3 and extended downward)
    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$J2,IF($H3-$H2>=0,$J2+$H3-$H2,$J2)

Calculation of "Total Descent Meters"

    based on the created file this is the formula for K3 and higher (put into K3 and extended downward)
    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$K2,IF($H2-$H3>0,$K2+$H2-$H3,$K2))

Calculation of "Altitude Min Meters"

    formula used for L2
    =$H$2

   formula used for L3 and higher

    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$L2,IF($L2>=$H3,$H3,$L2))

Calculation of "Altitude Max Meters"

    formula used for M2

    =$H$2

    formula used for M3 and higher

    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$M2,IF($M2<=$H3,$H3,$M2))

Calculation of "Total Ascent Feet"

    formula for N3 and higher

    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$N2,IF($I3-$I2>=0,$N2+$I3-$I2,$N2))

Calculation of "Total Descent Feet"

    formula for O3 and higher

    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$O2,IF($I2-$I3>0,$O2+$I2-$I3,$O2))

Calculation of "Altitude Min Feet"

    formula used for P2

    =$I$2

    formula used for P3 and higher

    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$P2,IF($P2>=$I3,$I3,$P2))

Calculation of "Altitude Max Feet"

    formula used for Q2

    =$I$2

    formula used for Q3 and higher

    =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$Q2,IF($Q2<=$I3,$I3,$Q2))

I also noticed that the trip distance over multiple files doesn't get calculated correctly.
I developed two different ways to calculate the traveled distance troughout the trip. One option would be to use the already calculated distance (columns V, W, X & Y) or using the coordinates lat & long (D & E) for the overall traveled distance.

Here my formulas:

Based on coordinates in D & E:

    Calculation of "Distance Feet":

        formula used for V3 and higher

        =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$V2,(ACOS(COS(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *COS(RADIANS(90-$D3)) +SIN(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *SIN(RADIANS(90-$D3)) *COS(RADIANS($E2-$E3))) *20902231) +$V2)

    Calculation of "Distance Meters":
        formula used for W3 and higher

        =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$W2,(ACOS(COS(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *COS(RADIANS(90-$D3)) +SIN(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *SIN(RADIANS(90-$D3)) *COS(RADIANS($E2-$E3))) *6375116) +$W2)

    Calculation for "Distance Miles":

        formula used for X3 and higher

        =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$X2,(ACOS(COS(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *COS(RADIANS(90-$D3)) +SIN(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *SIN(RADIANS(90-$D3)) *COS(RADIANS($E2-$E3))) *3958.756) +$X2)

    Calculation for "Distance Kilometers":

        formula used for Y3 and higher

        =IF(AND($D2=$D3,$E2=$E3),$Y2,(ACOS(COS(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *COS(RADIANS(90-$D3)) +SIN(RADIANS(90-$D2)) *SIN(RADIANS(90-$D3)) *COS(RADIANS($E2-$E3))) *6375.116) +$Y2)

Based on already calculated distance:

    Calculation of "Distance Feet":

        !!! cell V1 needs to be renamed to "Distance Feet Original" !!!

        cell AD1 needs to be named "Distance Feet"

        cell AD2 needs to become "0"

        formula used for AD3 and higher

        =IF($V3<>0,$AD2+$V3-$V2,$AD2)

   Calculation of "Distance Meters":

        !!! cell W1 needs to be renamed "Distance Meters Original" !!!

        cell AE1 needs to be named "Distance Meters"

        cell AE2 needs to become "0"

        formula used for AE3 and higher

        =IF($W3<>0,$AE2+$W3-$W2,$AE2)

    Calculation of "Distance Miles":

        !!! cell X1 needs to be renamed "Distance Miles Original" !!!

        cell AF1 needs to be named "Distance Miles"

        cell AF2 needs to become "0"

        formula used for AF3 and higher

        =IF($X3<>0,$AF2+$X3-$X2,$AF2)

    Calculation of "Distance Kilometers":

       !!! cell Y1 needs to be renamed "Distance Kilometers Original" !!!

       cell AG1 needs to be named "Distance Kilometers"

       cell AG2 needs to become "0"

       formula used for AG3 and higher

       =IF($Y3<>0,$AG2+$Y3-$Y2,$AG2)

I don't know if you @zaxs could include these calculations into your tool?

If someone wants to have example files, let me know.

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

hey guys,

I don't why but in the video gps data starts after 30 seconds. I can share you the youtube link so you can see it. I used Dashware to merge and GPDM to merge Gps data. And finally added them together with Dashware. And even though they are merged, the gps data counter resets for every clip and starts from 0 again which makes the merging totally uselles. Can anyone help me with this?

Re: Combine Several video captures and retain GPS data

Thank you very much - just tried your CSV merge program and it works very well, and has helped me out :)

I agree with your sentiments, GoPro produce very good hardware, I am very pleased with the Hero 7 (my last

was a Hero 3+) but as you say the software really lets them down.

I do like the DashWare software though, no documentation to speak of but excellent when you work it all out

Best wishes
