As suggested, for long recordings, you may take the battery out while the camera is connected to a power source.
We no longer have the portable power pack directly available on our website but you may check out other stores/channel if they have it on stock.

Nope, it does not. The Smart Remote disconnects very quickly. From what I can determine it is impossible to charge a GoPro Hero 7 Black and use it at the same time with a Smart Remote.
This is very disappointing. There are many applications where using an external power supply and using a GoPro with a Smart Remote would be required for example
On a motorbike
or anywhere where it is inconvenient (or impossible) to change a battery.
I was able to charge and use a GoPro Hero 5 with a Smart Remote, GoPro are going backwards.

I agree, the Hero 5 Black worked flawlessly with the Smart Remote WHILE hooked up to an external battery pack and ProMic Adapter with external audio....boy I sure miss those days when everything worked properly.
Now, my Hero 7 Black does work fine with external power and external audio and the Smart Remote, both with firmware v1.51 and v1.61. The audio does drift out of sync over time with external power and external mic via ProMic Adapter 3.5mm....as we all already know and posted 100x of times.
Unless I am mistaken, the Hero 7 Black wireless has to be on 2.4 ghz, not 5 ghz frequency, as the Smart Remote operates on the 2.4 ghz frequency. This works for me on both firmware versions. I also use premium Anker usb cables for the external usb battery pack. I leave the GoPro battery in the camera while hooked up to the usb power bank, seems to work fine.
Video below of the Hero 7 Black running for very long periods of time on a bike ride test. H7B is plugged into ProMic Adapter with a Hooke Verse external binaural mic and Anker USB power bank. Firmware in this video was v1.51 since I shot this 2 months ago.
Notice that the audio is about 1 second out of sync at the 17:24 mark. We hear the tire hitting the bridge before I actually arrive at the bridge.

Thank you for your detailled response, I will switch to 2.4ghz and test. When I contacted GoPro support they did say it was not recommended to charge and use the Hero 7 at the same time. This is Mr Francis Aries opinion.
Me (12/18/2018, 10:43:03 AM): Ok, lets try another question. Is there any issue with charging a GoPro and using it with the Smart Remote at the same time.
Francis Aries (12/18/2018, 10:44:32 AM): Let verify that one .
Francis Aries (12/18/2018, 10:44:41 AM): Let me verify that one .
Me (12/18/2018, 10:44:55 AM): BTW I should add that I was able to charge a Hero 5 and use the Smart Remote at the same time.
Me (12/18/2018, 10:45:24 AM): I then got a Hero 6 and started having problems.
Me (12/18/2018, 10:45:42 AM): I have now sold the Hero 5.
Me (12/18/2018, 10:45:56 AM): So I have a hero 6 and a hero 7 and two smart remotes
Francis Aries (12/18/2018, 10:47:13 AM): Actually it not advisable charging and using it at the same time.
Francis Aries (12/18/2018, 10:47:36 AM): There are instance that it will work but it can damage you camera.
Me (12/18/2018, 10:48:04 AM): That's not good, is hat common knowledge?
Me (12/18/2018, 10:48:25 AM): Sorry "Is that common knowledge"
Francis Aries (12/18/2018, 10:48:56 AM): Yes.
Me (12/18/2018, 10:49:47 AM): We have spent a lot of time on this chat and now you are saying it is not advisable to charge and use a Gopro at the same time!!!!!!
Francis Aries (12/18/2018, 10:50:17 AM): I'm sorry for that.

I hear you on the battery-in while charging. I did this with H2B, H3B, H4B, H5B and now the H7B. Never had the H6B so I don't know.
Honestly, I don't think even GoPro knows 100% if battery-in while charging damages the H7B camera.I take this with a grain of salt.....
I ALWAYS run my two H7B's in silver aluminum housings for heat dissipation. Making the camera body black is just plain stupid, I want it white for heat dissipation.
Keeping the camera cool on hot summer days works well for me, especially when charging and shooting 10+ minutes at a time at 4K 60FPS with ProTune on.
Hope the 2.4ghz setting works for you

Testing as we speak, I have it hooked up to the mains supply in my kitchen and am using the GoPro cable. So far I have done 8 small videos with the smart remote controlling it.
Fingers crossed and thanks again.
BTW if this does work, someone needs to tell the community, GoPro won't.
