I recently purchased a Hero 5 Black and have had a few times now in the week that I've had it that it will not shut off completely - the screen goes mostly dark. But you can see it at certain angles or if its dark that its still on. It will stay on that way and drain the battery and overheat. Have updated it as soon I opened it, have a Samsung 64GB MicroSDXC EVO Plus card. No issues with with card recording or otherwise. The last time (yesterday) it overheated I went to take the battery out and the tab came off the battery - too hot and losened it or expanded the battery and wouldn't come out as easy.
Any thoughts on the shutting off?

Please check this link:
Looks like an SD card issue.
You may try to contact GoPro Customer Support to have it checked.

@ try clling up a regional customer service rep @foggyboost53682 the Samsung Eveo select card should work I use that card, no issues. The camera is hanging on Only once or twice I noticed that happening but never had the issue again. I try to reload firmware see if that improves the camera. I refactory set the camera see if that helps clear a glitch.
I call up gopro if this is an ongoing issue Please make sure you have your proof of purchase and under the year of date if this wasa new camera that can get back to the store I do that first. otehrwise keep thesite posted I am sure there are others wit hteh same issue out there.

Sorry I should have included this as well but I've used a SanDisk Extreme UHS 16GB when I first used it but wanted a larger card and had that issue still. Its not recording anything or in the process of saving just when I go to shut it down - I know it could still be the card as when you shut it down, there will probably be some accessing the memory card whichcould cause it to lock up.

I tried both of those things and its not done it since, so it might have been that. I'd only had the camera for a week and it had done it twice in that time, so was a little worried. I've still been using it everyday, trying settings and it hasn't done it since. So I'll update this if it happens again but thanks for all the ideas!
