Bright sky causes ground to be underexposed

I have a Hero7 Black.

When the sky is bright, but I'm in the shade riding through trees or something, what I'm filiming (which is not the sky), is so dark, it's unusable footage.

The GoPro exposes the sky correctly, but not the ground. How can I fix this?

I would rather it overexpose the sky so the ground is right.

Re: Bright sky causes ground to be underexposed

Exposure control doesn't work when I'm going in and out of the dark areas. I can't stop every 3 minutes to change my camera settings. It seems like GoPro could easily fix this with a setting to expose the bottom half of the screen properly and ignore the top half for these scenarios.

This is actually something that affects all camera's, not just GoPro's.  One of the simplest ways to get around this issue is to use a Gradiant filter.  This is a filter that is clear on the bottom but gradually darkens towards the top.  I use Polar Pro filters on my GoPro's and have a number of different options for my DSLR camera's.  You can buy cheap filters online but I would recommend a good glass filter as opposed to a cheap plastic filter.

You can also angle your camera down slightly more than it is and use the spot meter setting.  This will then base the amount of light entering the camera based upon a center point of the ground rather than the bright sky.

Use exposure control and Spot Meter.

That's good advice.
