Just delivered and opened - brand new. Went on-line and looked at the manual - did as directed to install the battery and connect the charge cable to the wall. When plugged in, the LED light on the front blinks red then goes out. Tried with multiple chargers. Also have a Hero 5 Session and used the same charger/cable and it charges when connected to the Session. Connect to the HERO5 and one red blink. Tried connecting to a laptop as well - same result - one red blink then nothing.
I removed the battery and plugged the camera in to charge just to see what it does with no battery - one blink and then nothing. Same exact behavior. So it appears as though the device does not see the battery or the battery will not accept a charge. Nonetheless - Christmas was a little bit of a disapoointment. I am hoping someone here can tell me we made a procedural error in getting it charged for the first time.
Thanks for any an all help.

Unfortunately - we are one GoPro Hero5 battery household at this time so cannot test with another battery. Would love to get resolved as she heads to Florida on Wednesday.

Same problem, just opened up the GoPro Hero 5 and the red light blinks once then never comes back and will not charge nor turn on. Have tried the 8-10 second hold on the "mode" button to reset it but it did not work. For a breif moment the device turned on (was not due to doing the reset function, it breifly turned on prior to that) and I was able to get to the part where you set the time in the initial set up but it then just shuts off and will not turn back on. It will not even do this though anymore after messing with it this morning for an hour I only was able to access the setup screen twice and both times were random and I entered the language, date, and then when I went to set the time it shut down. I am thinking it was because there was a very small charge in the battery from when I opened it. The funny thing is the "mode" button didn't even turn the camera on for me, it was when I pushed the red circle button that the screen turned on. But again it was breif and I have not been able to replicate that action other than one time and it hasn't responded at all in the past hour to anything other than the red light quickly blinking and then nothing when I plug it in. Tried plugging into my computer to see if maybe there was a software update but the computer doesn't even recognize that it is plugged in. WTF GoPro, been reading all these horrific reviews on the past few years of your products, I hope this is an easy fix and I am just not seeing something obvious. Please help! Thank you!

If ordered off amazon I think you might be able to get it delivered on Wednesday (27th).
Hope you manage to find a solution or get a new one sorted soon!

If you've tried different cables, resetting the battery, and different charging blocks and outlets, I'd also suggest doing a manual update on the camera. Instructions for how to do this are at https://gopro.com/update/hero5.
If that doesn't work, please reach out to our Support team at https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs and we'll do our best to help get this resolved for you.

This is crazy! I've exaclty the same issue. No way to charge the battery. But... I tried to remove the battery and power on the camera attached to a power cord and it switched on. I'm starting to think my battery died before I started to use it. But I don't have another one to test for it. Tried to do the update but I cannot with no enough battery life.... I'm getting crazy. Any help is highly appreciated!
