If I put a new battery in my GoPro7 Black fully charged and make sure everything like wifi, gps etc are off and switch it off - so it is OFF - that battery drains and the camera gets very hot! This happens every time, regardless of battery type or charge.
The only way I can stop this happening is to ensure that the camera is in playback mode when I turn the power off - then it holds its charge. This IS a camera fault - I would suggest a firmware issue that is embedded in software.
One of the reasons I bouhgt this carmera was that my Heroo 3+ black had poor battery life. I have been thinking of putting an external power supply to the camera but worry, given the temperature it gets too while discharging, this may cause a fire or burn the camera out.
Any help would be appreciated - this was a brand new sealed unit.

What firmware version is your camera on? If you have not done it yet, re-flash camera firmware following the manual update steps below. This will ensure your camera is updated and will get rid of any possible error with the current installation.
- Go to the Update page and choose your HERO7 camera.
- Under "Other ways to update" at the base of the page, click "Update your camera manually."
- Enter your Serial Number and other requested information, click Next Step.
- Click "Download Update."
- Click "Click here to download firmware."
- Follow the steps on the screen for detailed instructions for your operating system.
Make sure that the camera battery is fully charged and that the SD card used is formatted (and a recommended one) prior to the process. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks for getting back so promptly.
When I first got the camera in June I uploaded the latest firmware update 1.7 via the app on my phone - and this is the firmware version reported by the camera.
However I followed your instruction and manually updated the firmware - and I'm happy to report that this has worked and the camera no longer gets hot! - there is a bit of battery seepage but nothing in comparison to what it used to be.
Seems the app update route is a little flackey!

Just did the latest update via quick and all went well - however now the camera when switched off now turns itself on and starts recording by itself!!!! and of course drains the battery - is there a fix? or can I go back to the previous update?
