Battery dents and fluid stain

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I purchased a Hero 7 Black and it came with a battery but it has a 1mm dent on all 4 corners and it has some fluid stain on the connector. This battery came with the Hero 7 Black so I would have to return the entire thing for a refund, I wouldn't mind purchasing it again knowing I have a non damaged product. I've worked in a battery manufacturing plant and i've never seen this type of abnormality. I'll contact the support for an RMA unfortunately I threw away all the packaging thinking I wouldn't need it, though I have the box it all came in. Despite being shipped over 2000 miles there was nothing in the box to keep all the stuff from flying but everything is fine except the battery.

These lines aren't from shipping it's from the manufacturing process guarenteed.

I could use the opinion of someone who works for Go Pro and understands these batteries.

1) What is the staining on the connector?

2) Why is the battery smashed?

Re: Battery dents and fluid stain

It's actually normal for the batteries to have these indentations.  There are two battery manufacturers for GoPro batteries.  One manufactures batteries that have this indentation and another that does not.  Another way to identify the different batteries is one has a plus (+) minus (-) on top by the connectors and the other does not (I believe it's the battery with the crease that has the plus/minus).

Interesting note. the battery with the crease and (+) (-) is actually known to be the more reliable battery.

Most importantly, there is nothing wrong with your battery.

I've seen the exact same thing on half of the unboxing videos, and the other half they are completely fine. Maybe the machines are jamming or not being cleaned?

Re: Battery dents and fluid stain

Hello again, sorry for the replies. I simply never owned a go pro before and I have seen other people with this same exact stain and denting. Could someone acknowledge if this is normal or if I should try to exchange it. It definitely looks as part of the manufacturing process but I simply never seen this before, as well as I'm not experienced with these.
