BATTERY GoPro 7 on GoPro 8 = what will i lose ?! [ New ]

My new GoPro 8 arrived yesterday! I hope to try it this weekend :)

I have only one question to ask at the moment...

Besides the "new" battery for the GoPro 8 I also have a battery for the previous GoPro 7. I am reading that it is compatible with the 8 but some functions are lost.

I record my videos at: 1080 - 60fps - Wide - Hypersmooth 2.0 set to Hight.

The information does not specify what exactly is lost as a function using a 7 battery on 8. Someone writes we lose the HyperLaps 2.0 who Hypersmooth 2.0. Do you have official info on this ?!

I would not buy a third battery but at the same time I don't want to lose the Hypersmooth 2.0 function.

It's not that the older HERO5/6/7 Black batteries wont work, it's just that the new batteries are designed to be able to give a little boost when needed. There isn't any specific feature that wont work, but in some circumstances (heat, cold, when the camera has been recording for awhile, when the battery is low on power,...) that the older batteries might cause higher functions, like Hypersmooth 2.0 High or Boost, to not work properly. With GoPro Plus the new batteries are less than $10, so I suggest just getting a couple of the new ones for your HERO8. Congrats on the new camera BTW!

Honestly your answer lies with A GoPro Rep call gopro see whathtey can offer about the  battery. if it will damage teh camera or not.

GoPro changes the battery in ANY way should note to the site,  on the main page.. Be carefulnot to toss incorrect voltage to any product.

I live in Italy and a GoPro 8 battery at the moment costs € 20 ($ 22) + shipping costs. So I was trying to figure out if using the GoPro 7 battery I would lose features at 1080 60fps wide hypersmooth hight. I also understand the risk (perhaps) of damaging the cam with different voltages. Too bad because I had recently bought the second battery for the GoPro 7 and was hoping to have no problems with the 8 (I bought the o in pre-order)

I have just tried to simulate the purchase of a battery here, on the site, but it tells me that it is not possible to send only the batteries without other items. Because of the new rules. I have no interest in buying other things to enable sending a battery and I do not want to subscribe to paid GoPro Plus subscriptions. In Italy then, on the "gocamera.it" site the batteries are not available.

@kyashan, previous batteries will work with the HERO8 Black with limitations. Users may see performance issues when shooting in high performance modes. For this reason, we suggest only using the HERO8 Battery in the HERO8 Black camera. 

• The Dual Battery Charger has not changed and will work with both types of batteries. 

As for concerns regarding battery purchase at gopro.com, due to safety regulations governing Lithium-Ion batteries, only minimal quantities of batteries are permitted to be shipped via air. That being said, there's a maximum of additional 2 rechargeable batteries for every camera purchase.

In addition to this, you will not be allowed to proceed with the checkout on the website if there's no camera associated with your order. These restrictions are placed on us by the shipper and not something we can control.

You may still be able to find this accessory at various local retailers.

So I can't buy a battery for the GoPro 8 on the site, but only from a seller at a price definitely higher than online. I understand the restrictions but it's still incredible.

I heard that Live photo runs non-stop in video so that is one good reason why a new battery  was made.
