Auto filename prefixes slash camera name

Hello All,

TL;DR: How can I get my session to forget all previous names I have given it and just use a single name? How do I get it to use the same prefix for file names (which is the camera name) instead of flipping back and forth between the two different ones I've used in the past? Screenshot of what I'm describing is attached.

More details:

When I first got my session 5 I was learning about the Android apps and the camera when I named the camera in the app settings something like "GoPro" and then later I changed the camera's name to something like "GP01" thinking I was going to buy more of them. Now, when I record videos sometimes the camera will name the files something like "GOPRO330.MP4" and sometimes it will name the files something like "GP010331". And it seems random which file name it will go with. It keeps them the same if the video goes over 12 minutes and it uses chaptering to split longer videos into 12 minute chunks, each chunk keeps the same name so if the first "chapter" in that video started with the GOPRO prefix then all the other videos in that long chain will also use the GOPRO prefix. But if I stop recording and start again, it will randomly use the GP01 prefix sometimes. How do I get it to stop doing that and only use the one GOPRO prefix for all file names? ..since that is the camera name I've decided to use and that's what the app settings are set on.

Thanks,

Dustin

Re: Auto filename prefixes slash camera name

What you are seeing has nothing to do with a name you attributed to the camera but rather just how the file naming convention works for GoPro cameras.

To better understand this, you need to first understand chaptering and how GoPro cameras split large video files.
https://gopro.com/help/articles/Question_Answer/GoPro-Camera-File-Chaptering-Information

Footage is all named sequentially GOPR0001, GOPR0002,...when individual files. When chaptered (same video broken up into parts) it's GP010001 (first chapter) GP020001 (second chapter). Since it's all one file the number 0001 is the same but the first part of the file GP01, GP02,.. are the chapters of that one file.

Re: Auto filename prefixes slash camera name

In order to get gp00001 and use the same gp0001 again you have to reset the camera each time.  a simple  way is to highlight the   ten videos shot and rename  file01 and they will all be named file01_01,  file01_02  in sequential order. you can do that by date etc. is that what you're asking if not    sorry

Re: Auto filename prefixes slash camera name

Hey Daniel. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the clarification. I guess the reason I thought it had something to do with the camera name is because I did end up getting another session and all it's file names match its name - GoPro02 - so it's files come out named GoPro02001, GoPro02002 and so on. But if it doesn't have anything to do with the camera's name then I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Thanks again.

Re: Auto filename prefixes slash camera name

No problem. It's confusing too many people. I can see how it would be even more so given the lables you gave the camera.
