Auto Rotate 7 Black - Another post about it not working

I have read a lot about auto-rotation and there seems to be a lot of issues with it. I just have one question.

If I turn on my GoPro in an upright position, begin recording (in that upright position) and then rotate the camera upside down (while still recording) how will the final video turn out?

Will the footage be upright and then upside down? Or will the camera recognize it was flipped upside-down and show the upside-down parts up-right?

I was assuming the later (that the camera would "auto rotate" the footage WHILE recording). But in practice, this does not work. Half of the footage is upside down.

Am I doing something wrong? Or does auto-rotate only work on the touchscreen and has nothing to do with the actual footage?

Please don't tell me I can always adjust it in post. Of course I can... that is not the point. If auto-rotate is a feature that rotates while recording then it should work without the hassle of more post work.

Hope someone can help clarify this. A half-hour of reading this forum brought me no answers. Thanks.

Re: Auto Rotate 7 Black - Another post about it not working

Hi @bluewater2228

The recording will be done based on the camera's orientation when the recording was started.

Example:

If you have the camera set to UP and record with the camera upside down, you'll get an upside down footage.

If the camera is set to DOWN and record with the camera upside down, the footage will still be on the correct orientation.

I hope this helps.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: Auto Rotate 7 Black - Another post about it not working

Thanks for the response.

So, there is no way to have it record and then still remain upright when you flip the camera over while recording?

I have seen videos with selfie sticks of people skating and talking and then turning the camera upside down to show their feet/skates. It looks seamless. But they must be doing this in post?

Thanks again.

@bluewater2228

Correct. It is being done in post editing.
