I've had two Hero 9s with the same problem. I've returned both. I suggest same to you and buy it again if they get the problem fixed. At the moment it's not listed to be fixed in next update and I've not read anyone from Gopro commenting the issue. It may be hardware related.

We appreciate your feedback. We have shared this with them and they are looking into it.
To help isolate the issue, will you be able to send a sample raw clip? You may upload it and share the link here.
Information on the items below will also be helpful.
1. Setting used including that of Wind/Audio
2. SD Card used (brand, capacity)
3. External mic used if any
4. Mount/Accessory used

Hi @aragon1006 ,
I am also getting these same crackling sounds, handheld, no case or attachments, walking on carpeted surface in my silent home (trying to minimize variables).
It happened on my VERY FIRST test video, out of the box (after 1.21 upgrade), and VERY disappointing.
The only thing I could isolate is that it happens (so far, not claiming exclusively) in factory Standard video mode... tweaking that mode to other digital lenses it has not happened yet (but not being exhaustive here). So it was easy to make happen.
Seems to be intermittent, not every recording, but highly consistent within a recording when it does occur.
Experienced user, recommended Sandisk SD, latest firmware 1.21 re-flashed again using manual mode, etc etc.
I can’t share my recording right now, but it sounds just like this guy’s video:

This is a live video uploaded to YouTube taken with "HERO 9 Black".
All video settings are default settings.
I shipped the camera to the factory and shot with the preset "standard".
The window setting is "automatic".
The microSD card used is "SanDisk Extreme (UHS-1 U3 / V30) A2 64GB".
No external microphone is used.
* I don't have a "microphone adapter" and a "media modular".
No mount is used.
* I am shooting with the camera in my hand.
I am suffering from this problem.
Is this a defective camera product?
Or is it a firmware bug that occurs on all "HERO 9 Black"?
Excuse me, but please help me.
