A lot of problems Gopro hero 8

[ Edited ]

Hi, everybody, I'm here to show you the problems of my new gopro hero 8. I've wanted to try a gopro for years, and, surprised by the stabilization of the latest version, I decided to buy it.

Since I turned it on the first time, it was a big disappointment. Really messy organized menu, and APP for android that doesn't work, it keeps disconnecting and it's too slow to connect.

After charging i have to remove the battery, or i can't even turn it on:

Sometimes the touchscreen and the buttons are not working at all, till I remove the battery:

And the worse thing is the stabilization I was surprised for. Every few frames there are blurry frames which are ruining the entire video, during the daylight and in the night. In the night it's much worse. I bought the camera and i have to record with my phone sometimes because the video is not usable. I tried every possible setting, wide, linear and so on, here it's one video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwiP78S7CFQ

4K 60FPS | Wide | HyperSmooth ON | High Bitrate | Shutter 1/120 | White Balance AUTO | Flat Color | min ISO 100 | ISO Max 1600 | Sharpness LOW

It's stablizing but blurrying the frames (not all of the frames). You can notice the blur every once in a while.

I put shutter to 1/120 to try to fix the problem but it didn't, it's just less. Look at this video:

Same settings, 30FPS, AUTO Shutter (Full of blurred frames)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FC3ghCNleVk

ALSO, I noticed that with this setting one video was completely over exposed:

It's sure that I will send the camera back to Amazon since it had also problem with the touch screen, and it's not accettable, but I would like to understand if other people had similar problems or I only got a faulty one.

Christian

I forgot, I'm using the latest version 1.60

4K 60FPS | Wide | HyperSmooth ON | High Bitrate | Shutter 1/120 | White Balance AUTO | Flat Color | ISO Max 1600 | Sharpness LOW

this was all on what firmware?

Problem 2  common issue, it pops up now and then, you get used to it. a Bug.  Night time and Hypersmooth, good luck, once you start moving its JItter footage since hte hero 5 time  . you must be stationary, Pan  slower then slow.. or any low light.  other then that you are unhappy return  then be stuck with it.  Even DJI is an Issue go figure with low light at night.

hi,

take a deep breath.

I never had problem 2.

I wound suggest to take a look at what card are you using. Maybe is too slow, or at the limit.

make a manual firmware update, not with the phone, to be sure everything is fine.

1/120 shutter outside when the sun is there will for sure overexpose your film - leave shutter on auto when bright light.

in low light yes, the workaround is to reduce the shutter to 1/(2 or 4 * fps) to get rid of the jelly frames, bouncing street lights, etc.

in that light the shutter will go much quicker than 1/500, maybe 1/1000, so you will get mich better stabilization, as the frames are more "frozen".

limiting the shutter in good light is bad for stabilization, because a quick moving action at 1/120s is blurred.

in this video the camera is on the handlebar? those vibrations could not be "frozen" at 1/120sec shutter speed.

filming actions at 30fps is not ok either

use 60fps and high bit rate, in good light let the shutter auto!!!

I put shutter to 1/120 to try to fix the problem but it didn't, it's just less. Look at this video:

Same settings, 30FPS, AUTO Shutter (Full of blurred frames)

FLAT colors and low sharpness? why? do you want to use some heavy postprocessing?

youtube will ruin the quality. on my phone, anything I post on youtube is much smoother.

here are three of my videos:

skiing - 2.7K, superview, 50fps, high bit rate, all the rest auto.

low light workaround and the effect of the shutter speed

https://youtu.be/26IBYddTvyg

commute to home at night

https://youtu.be/6RwSVNQD8LQ

2.7K 25fps, ISO max 800, shutter 1/50, hypersmooth on

(wait to have quality, I've just loaded it at 4k)

here you will see the street light bouncing when I get on that tarmac...this is normal, would have been better at 1/100 shutter but twice as dark.

in low light, you miss the details that a normal frame has, so stabilization has a demanding task, has no "anchors" between frames.

I wanted to show you some MTB real hill, but I realized that I did not MTB with GP8 on hills yet...

gopro8 is a fantastic camera, give some time to experiment things, settings.

you will get much better results.

Re: A lot of problems Gopro hero 8

this is not to scair you away but  like said gopro throws bugs and issues when least expected.

  today yep  this just happened.

https://youtu.be/l0_PhmE35rU

and like the idea about night time drop all shutter to the Minimal I wil lgive that a shot as  i know low light is Fun

4K24fps shutter to 1/100th as said

2.7K 25fps, ISO max 800, shutter 1/50, hypersmooth on

(wait to have quality, I've just loaded it at 4k)

Went to use quickcapture and seen it go off 15 min later my pocket is hot. I pressed mode off and 5 min later. Here I am showing you no one has this issue lol
