My GoPro (H5b) / Quik used to import videos into date organised folders. (correctly)
Now it is importing all video into one single folder user/pictures/1970-01-01/Hero5 Black 2/.
I.e. the date appears to be 1970-01-01.

GoPro media or files are organized based on the time you created them within the camera settings. If you have not done it yet, correct the camera's date and time information first, then capture sample photos or videos. See if this clears out the issue. Let us know how it works out.

I'm afraiid not.
I had already checked that. I have also:
- factory reset the camera
- uninstalled and reinstalled quik.
Just now I tried altering the date on the camera to some random date to see if that would force it to change something. Quik actually detected that the date on the camera was wrong and set it to the computer time. Nevertheless it still imported into the directory 1970-01-01 (Unix base date BTW).

I'm trying to update manually but can't get past the camera registration page.
I have a Hero 5 Black. I enter serial number CCAB16LP22xxxx etc and hit enter
The page then has a faint red border. But there is no other error message. I just get lots of recapta verfications.

I have the same problem. Today's date on my device is correct, and I have the latest desktop app.
I wish GoPro would fix this problem, or tell us exactly what they know about it. I wish that the desktop app would detect any firware problems or updates etc. I tried to leave this comment as a customer service feedback and I gopro's website crashed.
